Book of Small Prophet Jonah

1. The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord concerning Edom; We have heard a report from the LORD, and a messenger has been sent among the nations: "Rise up! Let us rise against it for battle!"

(Book of Small Prophets Obadiah Chapter 1 verse 1)

Oh God, my Father indeed this is a time for us to rise up. This terrorist group has done enough damage, killed enough people, women and children. It is the time that as one big family of God, we rise up and join forces against this evil forces of evil that are threatening the security of the world. It is a time when we need to unite and face this negative force the evil one father of lies and all sinful malice.

Oh God, my Father, You are able to expose anybody, who is supporting this group. Anybody who is financing this terrorist group ISIS is as guilty as the same members of this group for this is aiding and abetting and therefore this needs to be brought to and end Amen. I pray oh God that You bring an end to such a group Amen.

2. I will surely make you least among the nations; you shall be utterly despised. 3. Your proud heart has deceived you, you that live in the clefts of the rock, whose dwelling is in the heights, You say in your heart, "Who will bring me down to the ground? 4. Though you soar aloft like the eagle, though your nest is set among the stars, from there I will bring you down says the LORD.

(Book of Small Prophets Obadiah Chapter 1 verses 2 to 4)

Oh God my Father, where can we ever go and flee from Your sight, that You are not aware of where we are hiding. If we go up the highest mountain You are there before us, if we go down to the bottom of the oceans, You are also there. However, at times we may become proud and haughty and think that we are even better than You, our creator. When the Titanic was built the owner said that not even the gods had power over such a great ship, however, You showed him that there is nobody like You and rubbed his nose in the dust and brought him down from his high horse of pride Amen.

5.  If thieves came to you, if plunderers by night how you have been destroyed! would they not steal only what they wanted? If grape-gatherers came to you, would they not leave gleanings?

(Book of Small Prophet Obadiah Chapter 1 verse 5)

Oh God, my Father, indeed the evil one knows what he is after and will not rest until he gets it. This is our soul forever in order to claim it and keep it in eternal hell so that like Satan we would never have access to heaven. I pray almighty God, that the enemy will never break into my system. I pray for Your protection because the evil one is aware of my weakness, however, where and when I am weak You are strong Amen.

6. How Esau has been pillaged, his treasures searched out! 7. All your allies have deceived you, they have driven you to the border; your confederates have prevailed against you: those who ate your bread have set a trap for you-there is no understanding of it.

(Book of Small Prophet Obadiah Chapter 1 verses 6 to 7)

Oh God, my Father, there is no understanding humankind from the perspective of a human. At times we appear to be the best of friends, and at other times we become each other's worst enemies. One situation may be enough to trigger our emotions that disrupts, the previous state of balance and turns our lives into a state of chaos. We are so fragile oh God my Father! Please, I pray for mercy.

8. On that day, says the LORD, I will destroy the wise out of Edom, and understanding out of Mount Esau. 9. Your warriors shall be shattered, O Teman, so that everyone from Mount Esau will be cut off.

(Book of Small Prophet Obadiah Chapter 1 verses 8 to 9)

Oh God my Father without knowing we might be standing on the mountain of our pride. Mount Esau can easily become Mount Vince, when I feel proud and in control of my life, without the need of a God in my life. I pray oh God my Father that we may never be standing on the mountain but be humble and place You on the mountain instead giving You full control of our life Amen.

10. For the slaughter and violence done to your brother Jacob, shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off forever.

(Book of Small Prophet Obadiah Chapter 1 verse 10)

Oh God my Father if we were to look back in time and even focus on the present we may all find in our past or present or both acts for which we are to be ashamed of. We are living in a world of contrasts, where those in jail are undergoing their sentences as provided by the law, while corruption is still at its peak. Another contrast is that of world obesity versus world poverty. Many of us are dying of starvation while others are experiencing the consequences of over-consumption of food. Oh God, I pray that You restore the much-needed balance. Amen.

11. On the day that you stood aside, on the day that strangers carried off his wealth, and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, you too were like one of them.

(Book of Small Prophet Obadiah Chapter 1 verse 11)

Oh God my Father among those that cried for You to be crucified when I sin I remember that I was among the crowd of sinners. I pray for forgiveness although You already forgave me when You accepted to be crucified for me and my sins and those of the whole world Amen.

12. But you should not have bloated over your brother on the day of his misfortune; you should not have rejoiced over the people of Judah on the day of their ruin; you should not have boasted on the day of distress.

(Book of Small Prophets Obadiah Chapter 1 verse 12)

Oh God, my Father, I thank You for Your wisdom and counsel, it is true that we are to show mercy and compassion to our brothers and sisters especially who experienced negative events Amen.

13. You should not have entered the gate of my people on the day of their calamity;  you should not have joined in the gloating over judah's disaster on the day of his calamity. 14, You should not have stood at the crossings to cut off his fugitives; you should not have handed over his survivors on the day of distress.

(Book of Small Prophets Obadiah Chapter 1 verse 13 to 14)

Oh God my Father this accusation is fit and proper for the evil one, who on our days of calamity, makes our sorrows deeper and attempts to add fuel to the flame with the intention of driving us to a point of desperation and may even succeed in winning us over to him by claiming our souls in a spirit of unbelief. Cursed be such an evil spirit my God and Father Amen.

15. For the day of the LORD is near against all the nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you; your deeds shall return on your own head.

(Book of Small Prophets Obadiah Chapter 1 verse 15)

Oh God, my Father when Your day comes, nobody will be able to resist it. Therefore I pray on behalf of all humanity for us all to repent and change our ways while we still have time. Amen.

16. For as you have drunk on my holy mountain all the nations around you shall drink; they shall drink and gulp down, and shall be as though they had never been.

(Book of Small Prophets Obadiah Chapter 1 verse 16)

Oh, God my Father on reflecting on verse 16, it came to mind that all who consume Your Body and Blood in the form of the Holy Eucharist in faith will benefit from all the graces, however, those who do not receive You in faith will receive their condemnation instead of their redemption Amen.

17. But on Mount Zion there shall be those that escape, and it shall be holy, and the house of Jacob shall take possession of those who dispossessed them. 18. The house of Jacob shall be a fire, the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau stubble; they shall burn them and consume them and there shall be no survivor of the house of Esau; for the LORD has spoken.

(Book of Small Prophets Obadiah Chapter 1 verses 17 to 18)

Oh God, my Father, once You have proclaimed an event to take place it cannot be reversed by humans. Even the superpowers of the world have no control over what You will, to take place in the world. However what is of great consolation to me is that even though I may not understand why things are taking place, You have all the reasons Amen. Thank You, Jesus Amen.

19. Those of the Negeb shall possess Mount Esau, and those of the Shephelah the land of the Philistines; they shall possess the land of Ephraim and the land of Samaria, and Benjamin shall possess Gilead. 20. The exiles of the Israelites who are in Halah shall possess Phoenicia as far as Zarephath; and the exiles of Jerusalem who are in |Sepharad shall possess the towns of the Negeb. 21. Those who have been saved shall go up to Mount Zion to rule Mount Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD'S.

(Book of Small Prophets Obadiah Chapter 1 verses 19 to 21)

Oh God, my Father, I pray that my inheritance shall always be You and not the pleasures and fame of the world. May I be precious in Your eyes and not in that of the world Amen.

Oh God my Father I would like to end the book of the prophet Obadiah with the following prayer:

Oh brothers and sisters who may be enduring hard and difficult times, rejoice and pray a prayer of thanksgiving, for even though the odds appear to be against us, even though we may feel that all has been lost since the enemy seems to be getting the upper hand, God will make us victors over our circumstances. Oh God, You are my champion and my Saviour. Amen.
